Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia and its political, cultural, and economic centre, joined ICORN in June 2024.

While the City of Bratislava acts as the official member of ICORN, the hosting of ICORN residents in the city is done in cooperation with two non-governmental organisations- the Milan Šimečka Foundation and the literarnyklub.sk.

The Milan Šimečka Foundation focuses on issues of human rights, democracy, and education, and is one of Slovakia’s oldest NGOs, established in 1991. The literarnyklub.sk is a civic assosication for indepedent writers on the Slovak literary scene, organising more then 150 events each year.

After many years of collaboration between the two NGOs and ICORN, the Milan Šimečka Foundation and literarnyklub.sk approached the City of Bratislava with the idea for the city to formally become an ICORN City of Refuge.

In October 2023, Bratislava welcomed Iranian writer, editor, and graphic designer Farhad Babaei as the city's first ICORN resident.
