Frankfurt was one of the first ICORN Cities of Refuge, joining the network upon its establishment in 2006. Prior to this, Frankfurt hosted writers at risk through the International Parliament of Writers (IPW).
Frankfurt's ICORN residencies are hosted and managed through a cooperation between the city's cultural department and the Frankfurt Book Fair.
The German city has hosted eight writers, journalists, and artists at risk, including Carlos Aguilera, Anzhelina Polonskaya, and Aslı Erdoğan.
