The birthplace of Henrik Ibsen, one of Norway's most important writers and thinkers, Skien has been a member of ICORN since the organisation’s founding in 2006.

Since then, the city has hosted nine writers, artists, and journalists in ICORN residencies, including Basim Mardan, Safaa Alwan, Abdullahi Muhaiddin, Nawzat Shamdin, Ahmedur Rashid Tutul, Nasim Nazari, and Masoud Ghadimfallah.
