Umeå

Umeå is a city located in northern Sweden, with rich Sápmi history and a diverse international community.

In September 2016, Umeå joined ICORN and has, since then, hosted five writers, artists, and journalists in ICORN residencies.

Iraqi musician Basim Jamal was Umeå's first ICORN resident, followed by Eritrean writer Tsegabrhan Goitom Habtemariam. In 2022, the city welcomed the Kurdish-Iranian music duo Hero and Frya.

Umeå hosted the Swedish ICORN Network Meeting in October 2024.
