Uppsala joined ICORN in 2010, becoming the third Swedish ICORN City of Refuge at the time. Prior to that, Uppsala hosted writers at risk through a collaboration with Swedish PEN.
The ICORN residency in Uppsala is coordinated through the city's public library and cultural office.
Uppsala has hosted five writers, artists, and journalists in ICORN residencies, including Anisur Rahman, Sedigheh Vasmaghi, Ashraf Bagheri, and Mamon Zaidy.
