The fourth edition of the Mayor Paweł Adamowicz Award honoured Vitali Klitschko, Mayor of Kyiv, as this year’s laureate for ‘his extraordinary leadership in fostering civic engagement, even amidst the extreme challenges of war’ and ‘his advocacy for freedom, rule of law and European integration underlines his dedication to Kyiv's democratic future’.

Founded in memory of Mayor Paweł Adamowicz of Gdańsk, who was tragically assassinated in 2019, the award was established to celebrate political and civil society leaders in their fight against intolerance, oppression, and radicalisation. The Award is a partnership between the European Committee of the Regions, the City of Gdańsk, and ICORN.

This year’s laurate was announced on 13 January at the Institute of Urban Culture in Gdańsk. The award will be formally presented during the European Committee of the Regions’ eighth Inaugural Plenary Session on 20 February.

Special recognition was also awarded to Palestinian and Israeli community leaders Bassam Aramin and Rami Elhanan from the Parents' Circle Family Forum for promoting peace and reconciliation between their communities.
