On 12 June 2026, multidisciplinary artist Mohammed Brjass opened his first solo exhibition in Sweden, ‘A Wandering God’, at the Dawit Isaak Library in Malmö. The exhibition runs from 12 to 30 June 2026.
Through Brjass’s multidisciplinary practice, including painting, graphic design, and photography, ‘A Wandering God’ combines visual expression with historical and cultural narratives from ancient Sudanese civilisations, particularly the Kushite era. The exhibition explores themes of identity, cultural memory, continuity, heritage, and histories that are often overlooked in contemporary culture.
Originally from Sudan, Brjass began his artistic career in 1995 after completing a BA in Fine and Applied Arts. He also holds a diploma in graphic design and has completed numerous courses in design, photography, and editing. His work centres on social and political issues, cultural heritage, and freedom of expression, blending ancient influences with contemporary artistic forms. Over more than three decades, his art has been featured in numerous exhibitions in Sudan and Egypt. He fled Sudan in 2012 after being repeatedly detained and threatened for his artistic work.
In September 2025, Brjass arrived in Malmö, Sweden, where he is the current ICORN resident.
The exhibition opening on 12 June included a short introduction by Anas Alkhabour, Head of Unit at Malmö City Archives. This was followed by a presentation by Mohammed Brjass on the works and themes of the exhibition, an exhibition walkthrough, and a networking event with guests and press representatives.
