On 29th May 2024, the Swedish city of Västerås joined ICORN by signing the Membership Agreement on stage during the ICORN General Assembly in Copenhagen.
By becoming an ICORN City of Refuge, Västerås committed to protecting and promoting freedom of expression and joined forces with 86 ICORN Cities of Refuge worldwide.
The ceremony took place during the first plenary session of the 2024 ICORN General Assembly on 29th May 2024. Lenny Hallgren, the Director of Culture and Leisure in the Municipality of Västerås and Anders Teljebäck, Chair of the Municipal Council in Västerås signed the ICORN Membership Agreement on stage, together with Annika Strömberg, the Chair of the ICORN Board and Helge Lunde, ICORN’s Executive Director. Other representatives from Västerås who attended the signing were Maria Ringström, Katrin Ingelstedt, Frej Berglind Drake.
Västerås, located in central Sweden, will host its first ICORN resident who will benefit from the city’s cultural scene and institutions such as Västerås Art Museum.
