Dessale Berekhet is a writer and journalist from Eritrea. He worked as a journalist in Eritrea until the government’s crackdown on independent media in September 2001, after which he continued as a freelancer for the state-owned press.

Berekhet has published multiple books, including cultural and children's books in the local languages Tigre and Tigrinya. He was also one of the founders of the Tigre cultural magazine Takiyat, where he served as Editor-in-Chief. However, the magazine was short-lived due to censorship and interference by the regime.

From 2012 to 2014, Dessale Berekhet was the ICORN resident in Bø (Midt-Telemark). In 2014, together with other Eritrean writers in exile, he co-founded PEN Eritrea.

He continues his work from exile.
